Trying to D/L the English 32-bit ISO. The recommended download manager says the file does not exist, and trying to bypass the manager results in a 10 second download of an empty ISO file.
What gives?
There is red-letter text all over the GetReady pages advising that the servers are swamped and requesting folks to order the dvd kit.

I just redownloaded today to see if that was still true. It downloaded for me in 45 minutes no problem. Just keep trying "Colin Barnhorst" wrote in message

The downloaded ISO is 1,152 bytes. Not likely to work, 'ey what?

Why should I give $ to M$ for a beta with about a 45 day timebomb?

The beta actually lasts longer than that. It ends offically in June of 2007 "FloridaMan" wrote in message

It's just for the shipping and handling. That is just an ordinary expense in my budget, not a big deal. If they want to ship me a couple of dvd's made at their expense then I'm OK about reimbursing them something.

FloridaMan....
there is no 45 day timebomb in Beta 2. It expires June of 2007. Thats basically a year.
Also, If you order the Beta on DVD you will automatically also recieve RC1 when it comes out.

Good point. That really makes the charge minimal.

I received the e-mail with a link to download the Vista Beta. When I tried I got the message that it was too busy and to come back later. I tried a few times and now I get the folowing message:
You have received the maximum number of Product Keys available for this program.
How do I get around this to download the Beta?
Thanks,
John
Generally this happens because the user is trying to access the download by using the http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx link. ie. the windows vista download option under the vista community page. This link is only used to recieve your key for the iso. once you receive the email, you MUST use the link on this email to get to the download site again to select your type of download and start the process.

You have to use the link in the email they sent you in order to download. Don't delete the message in case you have to download again. This message tells you they have sent you the maximim number of Product Keys and won't be sending anymore messages to you with the Product key. -- John F. Lavey

Ok, this isn't making sense to me. I logged in, filled out the goofy questions and chose to download over buy a DVD and it went straight to the error message. I never saw a screen to generate an email and have not gotten one.
I went back to buy the DVD and it runs for a while and then says "done" at a blank white page, even in IE.

Is this the verify e-mail, e-mail... or are we waiting for another message with the key & link in it? After following the link in the Verify e-mail message, it sent me directly to a page that stated the error everybody else is getting about the product keys.

Okay I finally got my key. I went through the process again and it came up in a separate window and said to print the page then click on the link. It did not come in an email. Now that I have the dl started, it's moving like molasses going uphill in the winter.

I got an email several minutes later, but it was after I started my download. When I wnet through again I clicked the link under DL down the page below order the DVD and it went to another page that had a little colored box and some links to choose your language. I clicked and it opened the page with a lil yeller box that had the key codei n it and links for 32 or 64 bit. Then you click for the download manager, I doubled this page one in Firefox and one also in IE just in case. By the time I got the IE page going the FF page was at 1% and stayed ahead. Since the FF page worked properly I closed IE and now I'm at 15%. There is someone out there mirroring the DL with a torrent if you have trouble with the DL after you get the key. You have to get the key first regurdless of where you DL the program.

After some attempts to download it last night, I have started yet another download of Vista. Every time, usually around the 500-700 MB mark, it comes up with a fatal error, but doesn't explain much more. This doesn't crash anything, just the download. I think the main culprit is my (crappy) wireless connection. It drops out every 5-10 minutes, which can be easily remedied by repairing the connection. The download gets interrupted for about 15-30 seconds, but isn't that what the application was designed for?
If you guys (and girls) could come up with some tips on how to get this download to run more smoothly, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! -Stephen -- On my 4th attempt to download the monster that is Vista, on Verizon 768k DSL.
FiOS install can''t come soon enough.
Try using a "download Manager" such as "GetRight." Will help with the rusuming thing.
Or just pony-up and order the DVD.
